Looking for a useful answer?

Read this first and make sure you checked all steps: www.csvimproved.com/frequently-asked-questions/635-troubleshooting-import-errors

Don't just say it doesn't work but describe in detail what is happening and add the following information:
* VirtueMart version
* CSVI version (Latest is not a version number)
* Sample of the file being imported
* Collected debug information

Without this information you won't get a useful answer. If no debug log is attached, you will get a request to post it.

Where to get the debug information?

A tutorial (www.csvimproved.com/frequently-asked-questions/390-how-to-collect-debug-information) has been written to help you collect your debug information. For CSVI 3, there is a video available (www.csvimproved.com/downloads/file/18-collect-debug-information)

Hi,
I created a csv file with three columns - category_id, category_name and category_path.

the import fails and shows this error: Category name does not match category path.

I read the advice about leaving out the category_id, but>
1. I need to use the category_id
2. it fails even if I only leave category_name and category_path - need to use both because they differ

Is there any way to import fresh new categories with the product_id? (we're transferring eshop from another system and the IDs need to be kept the same)

Hello,
the import fails and shows this error: Category name does not match category path.
The category_name must be the same as the last name in your category_path. There is no need for the category_name field if you have the category_path.

You can only use the category_id field for existing categories, not for creating new categories. The only way around this is to import a list of IDs directly in the database using PhpMyAdmin and after that you can use them for import.

When using the category_id, do not use the category_path with it but only the category_name.
Kind regards,

RolandD

Hi,
I imported the categories with the ids through PhpMyAdmin first.
Then I adjusted the template so there only is category_id and category_name
But even then when I import the csv file with only those two columns I get the same error> imtp.me/3db7006q4.p

This is the settings of the import template>

First of all I don't understand why the Virtuemart ignores the categories when I create them using the import through PhpMyAdmin. I inserted two categories manually, then made a sample csv export from database and created the exact same import - the categories are in the database but when I go to Virtuemart, they're not there...only those I created manually. I don't know what the fields cdate and mdate numbers are so they are the same for all the lines in my csv import...can this be the problem?

Hello,

Seems I was a little off, in your version you must also include the category_path into your import file. The last category in the path must match the category_name field. You may give it a try to just duplicate the category_name column and name it category_path.
First of all I don't understand why the Virtuemart ignores the categories when I create them using the import through PhpMyAdmin.
There is most likely an inconsistency.

You can ignore the cdate and mdate fields.
Kind regards,

RolandD

TESTIMONIAL

Excellent product with amazing support
5 stars

I registered on here just to leave a review.
This software is free or commercial. The free software is amazing, but the commercial version has so much more. If you are importing anything, and I mean anything, into joomla, you NEED this extension. With a little configuration, built in to CSV-I, you can import from any csv (or almost any other UTF-8 text file) into the joomla database. Just select which table you want to import to, and upload your doc, and it's done.
The documentation is excellent and easy to follow. The forums have some great questions answered already. If you have a question that you can't figure the answer for, or find elsewhere, Rolandd has several options for support, even down to 10-day support that's very affordable, so you can ask any questions.
I do, however, suggest, the full commercial version. you move from ver. 4 (free) to ver. 5 (commercial), and you get a full year support included, as well as a few other pieces of software that aren't included in ver. 4 like his Field Mapper for CSV-I and Cherry Picker.
Did I mention the amazing support??!! Rolandd saved me many hours of work, and provided a support response in less than 12 hours. The problem I had I would have NEVER found on my own, yet it was easy to fix. (always hate those problems that stare you in the face but have no idea they are the problem)
I am using this extension to move an entire business' in-house MS Access DB to a fully-functional online MySQL DB with Virtuemart (and custom component/module/view/etc..) I would never be able to do it without CSV-I. Total lifesaver. I will never build another joomla site without including this extension.
Thank you again Rolandd.
