Module settings

The module settings have 7 options that can be configured:

  1. Template name
  2. Fold and expand functionality
  3. Category/Categories to show
  4. Show sub sub categories
  5. Show products
  6. Module suffix
  7. Link to itemid

Template name
The templates are stored in the following location:
Joomla 1.0: modules/vmcategorymodule/
Joomla 1.5: modules/mod_vmcategorymodule/vmcategorymodule/

Fold and expand functionality

This adds the option to fold and expand categories by clicking on their name. This way the module can be used as a replacement for Joomla menus.

Category/Categories to show 

These are the categories that show up in the module. Enter as many or few categories as needed separated with a comma.

Show sub sub categories
By default VmCategoryModule shows all sub categories including the subcategories of subcategories until all subcategories are displayed. To only show the direct subcategories turn this feature off by setting the option to No.

Show products

Products will be shown as menu links. This is useful when creating a menu and the store has only a few products per category.

Module suffix

Adds the option to style the module to website layout.

Link to itemid

When there are multiple links to VirtueMart, this can be used to identify to which VirtueMart link the module should refer.

Copying the module

The module can be copied take the following steps:

  1. Click on

Joomla 1.0: Modules → Site Modules
Joomla 1.5: Extensions → Module Manager

  1. Select the module
  2. Click on Copy in the toolbar

A copy is now created of the module. By clicking on the module name, the new module can be configured and used. Repeat this process as many times as needed.
